"Ties," the new anime closing theme song, is being performed by Emi Noda. Sunday's 14th episode of the anime will feature the premiere of both theme songs.

On July 7 at 5:30 p.m. (4:30 a.m. EDT), TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, TV Aichi, TV Setouchi, TV Hokkaido, and TVQ Kyushu Broadcasting Co., Ltd. broadcasted the anime premiere.

In the film, Natsu Dragneel, Lucy Heartfilia, Happy, Gray Fullbuster, Erza Scarlet, Wendy, and Charle are all played by Tetsuya Kakihara, Aya Hirano, Rie Kugimiya, Yūichi Nakamura, Sayaka Ōhara, Satomi Satou, and Yui Horie, respectively. Other actors in the cast are:

  • Mugihito as Elefseria

  • Yūichirō Umehara as Mercphobia

  • Yōko Hikasa as Karameel

  • Sayumi Suzushiro as Touka

  • Yumi Uchiyama as Kiria

  • Kenji Hamada as Skullion

  • Nobuhiko Okamoto as Ignia

The cast of the anime declared on September 25 that, because to "various circumstances," Madmole's voice will now be provided by a new actor, replacing Itaru Yamamoto. I'm Enterprise, Yamamoto's voice acting agency, declared on September 22 that it had terminated the voice actor's management contract as of September 14 because of a "acknowledged serious breach of contract."

Toshinori Watanabe (Edens Zero, Mix: Meisei Story, Tokyo Ghoul:re) is directing the new anime at J.C. Staff, with Shinji Ishihara, the chief director of the Fairy Tail anime series, serving as the assistant director. The anime's scripts are overseen by Atsuhiro Tomioka, who wrote numerous episodes of the previous Fairy Tail anime. Edens Zero's Yurika Sako is creating the character designs. Yasuharu Takanashi returns for the music, and Shōji Hata, the sound director, comes back from a previous series. The opening theme song, "Story," is performed by Da-iCE, and the closing theme song, "Tomo yo, Koko de Sayonara da" (My Friend, We Say Our Farewells Here), is performed by Boku ga Mitakatta Aozora.

The manga is published in English by Kodansha USA Publishing, which explains the plot as follows:

The entire Fairy Tail guild, including Natsu, Lucy, Happy, and Erza, is back in action! And they've made the bold decision to take on the "100 Years Quest," an undertaking that no one has dared to attempt since the guild's establishment more than a century ago. An enigmatic place, a perplexing ghost, a horrifying new foe...and a whole new continent to discover. Adventures never end when you're with true pals!

In July 2018, Ueda, who plays Dr. Prisoner in Hajime Shachō Monogatari, released the official continuation of Mashima's first Fairy Tail manga on Kodansha's Magazine Pocket manga app. Ueda is sketching the series, and Mashima is supplying the original storyboards for the manga. On August 7, Kodansha released the eighteenth collected book volume.

Three previous television anime (including a "final season" in 2018), two anime movies, multiple original video anime projects, spinoff manga, and several more media were all influenced by Mashima's original Fairy Tail manga. In North America, the manga's original and several of its spinoffs are published by Kodansha USA Publishing.
